Tom:
Tom has been training horses professionally since 1981.
He graduated from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls with a bachelor’s degree in Animal Science in 1978.
While attending college, he interned for Jack Brainard in Rochester, MN and showed his first reining horse, Spanish Lace I. This mare was responsible for Tom's lifelong interest in reining horses.
He owned and operated Pierson Performance Horses from 1981 to 1995. He was also the Horse Herdsman at UWRF and helped teach the colt training class for ten years.
In 1995, he moved to Michigan as the trainer at Cold Spring Farm in Maple City with the chance to start a number of reining-bred two year olds.
Tom has started eight NRHA futurity finalists, showing two of them.
Rachel:
Rachel has been assistant trainer with Tom since 2008.
She graduated from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls with a bachelor's degree in Animal Science in 2008.
From 2000-2006, Rachel worked for the Birchwood Farm Equestrian Center in Harbor Springs, MI. She had the opportunity to train and show a diverse group of horses in this time.
While attending college, she started a number of reining bred colts and began to build up her show resume. She won the 2009 MRHA reining futurity on Jac It Up A Step, who was raised and trained by Tom and Rachel.
Together, they are working at Windy Ridge Farm in South Boardman, MI. They share the belief that training is more than a profession, it's a way of life. They are devoted to becoming masters of communication to the horse at any level of training.
